Cape Clear history lesson...while you sip on your coffee : )

Well here we are on the brink of another weekend so why not learn something new about Cape Clear while you sip on your morning coffee and watch that clock count down...ever closer to lie-ins and freedom...

Here is a picture of the lighthouse that was established on Cape Clear in 1818 on the southern part of the island. However its position on top of a cliff meant it was frequently obscured by fog and mist and in 1847 the Stephen Whitney ran aground just off the shore of Cape Clear with the loss of 92 lives. Its light was extinguished in 1854 after much partitioning and pressure from authorities. The light is situated next to an old signal tower built in the early 1800s when the British authorities thought the French might attack, but quickly deserted when it was clear they wouldn't.

Hope you found this interesting. I will keep the information coming as often as possible for everyone who’s is interested in the island.

Have a great weekend everyone! : )
